Offers in Compromise
Once the IRS determines that a Taxpayer owes money, God have Mercy! The IRS will seek not only the owed amount, but unbelievable amounts of interest and penalties. Like a vampire, the IRS will literally suck the blood and life out of its’ Taxpayer victims. If left to the “tender mercy” of the IRS, the Taxpayer will be forced to live at a subsistence level for the next 10 years, with the bulk of his or her income going to the IRS.
Fortunately, US law provides a procedure by which Taxpayers can pay significantly less to the IRS than they in fact owe. That process is known as the Offer in Compromise process. The IRS tries very hard to limit Offers in Compromise to people without any assets and limited income. There are ways to force the IRS to be a bit more reasonable. However, doing so requires skill developed over many years, discipline, fortitude, tenacity and courage.
